June was a month filled with opportunities to connect with educators, business leaders, community organizations, and residents.

Education & Youth

On June 8th, I attended the Education Excellence Breakfast Blender, which brought together education, business leaders, and community members to celebrate the educational opportunities shaping our region. Speakers included representatives from WKCTC, Murray State, Mayfield Independent Schools, Graves County Schools, and Northside Baptist Christian School.

On June 18th, I attended Power in Partnership, which brought together economic development, school administration, industry, and community leaders. Ashley Burns, WKCTC’s Director of Community, Workforce and Economic Development, spoke about workforce training opportunities, grants, and other programs available through WKCTC.

On June 22nd, myself, other city council members, community leaders, GCED and Chamber representatives went to Hopkinsville and met with their leadership team, developers and local officials to have discussion in regards to incentive programs and downtown development.

Community Partnerships

June also brought several opportunities to celebrate local businesses. There was a ribbon cutting for Bouncin’ Budz Inflatables LLC. We wish this family-owned business and the other businesses that recently opened continued success and the best of luck.

Economic Development is my primary focus for our community. Work, wages and wealth is what builds strong communities. I attended the Graves County Economic Development Skybox Partner Luncheon, where discussions focused on population growth, job opportunities, housing, quality of life, and the importance of creating amenities that encourage people to live, work, and invest in our community.

Congratulations to Independence Bank branch on commemorating 10 years of service in Mayfield, Graves County. We thank you for your service in the community.

Community Connection

One of the highlights of June was helping coordinate the Juneteenth/Father’s Day weekend. We kicked off the weekend at Dunbar Park with music, food, and a community event welcoming everyone. Saturday brought another community gathering at Eddie Williams Park, where we had informational booths, nonprofits, food vendors, music from A Different Sound, games, and door prizes.

On Sunday, we closed out the weekend with a Father’s Day event at the Catalyst Center. Families enjoyed basketball games, food, and activities.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated, supported, and showed up. Community events are successful because of the people who make them possible.
