I knew it was summer time, however, there were no days off for me! In July, I enjoyed engaging in necessary meetings, community events, and opportunities to learn from people who are working to make Western Kentucky stronger.

Investing in Our Youth

On July 15th, myself and other community partners had another meeting with WKCTC to discuss ways Mayfield and Graves County can partner with WKCTC and bring greater awareness to the opportunities available to our students to promote career readiness. WKCTC wants to be more intentional about becoming more present in Mayfield and Graves Co. school districts while showcasing career pathways and providing students with early exposure to opportunities available after high school.

Supporting Our Senior Community

On July 22nd, I had the opportunity to visit the PACE program in Marshall County. The center is designed to support the senior community and provides a variety of services such as medical, transportation, and daily support services. This program is a great resource for not only Mayfield, Graves Co. but communities throughout our region.

Education & Leadership

At the end of the month I attended KASA’s (Kentucky Association of School Administrators) Annual Leadership Institute. The conference is designed to bring together public education leaders from across the Commonwealth to collaborate, gain practical leadership strategies and prepare for the upcoming school year.

The following day, I attended the Farm to Table event at WK&T. I was proud to serve on the committee for such a great event put on by our Chambers. It's important that local farmers, agricultural producers and agribusiness leaders who are vital to our community are recognized, honored and celebrated.

Community & Economic Development

A huge topic over the past several summers has been the conditions of the baseball park. We are proud of the improvements that have been taking place at the ballpark. We are thankful to have new installed lights at the Mayfield-Graves County ballpark. Thank you to everyone involved, including the Parks and Recreation Board, Ballpark board, community, WKRECC, MEWS, and for the businesses and community leaders who have helped and are in the process of helping make the needed improvement possible. This is not only great for our youth but it provides opportunities for family engagement and connection. As we continue to make improvements, it will have a huge impact on economic development in the community.
