Family, friends, and neighbors . . .
First, thank you to every voter, volunteer, supporter, and neighbor who helped make this moment possible. Your encouragement, trust, and engagement continue to inspire me as we move from the primary election into the general election.
As we move forward, our mission remains the same: listening to our community, working together, and building a stronger future for Mayfield. One of the most encouraging aspects of this election season has been seeing people register and vote for the very first time. Local elections matter because the decisions made at the local level directly impact our daily lives. When citizens become engaged, our community becomes stronger.
Over the past month, I have had the opportunity to connect with residents throughout our region, hear concerns, celebrate successes, and share my vision for Mayfield's future. I firmly believe progress comes through collaboration, investing in our youth, supporting economic growth, and strengthening relationships across our city and county.
Supporting Community Resources
On May 15, I attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Graves County HUB. As a member of the Graves County Board of Health, I had heard about this important initiative during a board meeting. It was a privilege to see this vision become a reality.
The HUB serves as a one-stop resource center connecting citizens to healthcare services, substance abuse treatment, mental health support, housing assistance, transportation resources, and food services. The HUB also provides hot meals weekly and will serve not only Graves County residents but individuals throughout our region. This is exactly the kind of partnership that strengthens communities and helps meet people's most basic needs.
Investing in Our Youth
On May 16, the Mayfield Middle School 7th and 8th grade football teams participated in the McCracken County 7-on-7 and Big Man Challenge. I was proud to watch these young athletes compete, support one another, and represent Mayfield so well. Congratulations to our 8th-grade team for bringing home the 7-on-7 championship!
Our youth are the future of our community, and their success both on and off the field matters.
Honoring Those Who Served
On May 23, I had the privilege of helping place American flags at Highland Park Cemetery in honor of our veterans. Memorial Day weekend also included a meaningful ceremony hosted by American Legion Post 26 at Harmon Park.
I am deeply grateful for the men and women who have sacrificed for our freedoms. Their service and dedication remind us of the responsibilities we share as citizens and community members.
Addressing Community Needs
Many people assume students look forward to school breaks, but for some children, school provides more than education, it provides access to food, support, and stability.
On May 28, representatives from the Mayfield and Graves County school districts joined community leaders and WellCare to discuss ways we can work together to reduce barriers and improve food access for families. Thank you to Crystal Fox with Mayfield Enrichment Center for bringing everyone together around such an important issue.
When we work collaboratively, we can better serve students and families throughout our community.
Celebrating Recovery and Growth
Also on May 28, I joined community members in celebrating West Kentucky Drug and Alcohol's new Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). After losing their facility in the tornado, they rebuilt stronger than ever and now offer expanded services to individuals seeking recovery and support.
Their resilience is a testament to the strength and determination that defines our region.
The Power of Partnership
Strong communities are built through strong partnerships. That is why I was honored to attend the Power in Partnership Breakfast and celebrate the graduation of the Leadership Paducah Class. My wife, Ashley Parrott graduated from Leadership Paducah. Events like these bring together leaders from across Western Kentucky to share ideas, build relationships, and create opportunities for future growth.
Let's Talk Economic Development
To close out the month, I welcomed Graves County Economic Development President Jason Lemle to my podcast, Let's Talk Mayfield. We had an insightful conversation about economic development, what it truly means for our community, and how it impacts everyone who lives, works, invests, and does business in Mayfield and Graves County.
Economic development is about creating opportunities, supporting businesses, attracting investment, and ensuring our community continues to grow and thrive for generations to come.
Looking Ahead
Thank you again for your support, encouragement, and belief in this vision for Mayfield. I remain committed to listening, learning, and working alongside our community to create opportunities for future generations.
I would also like to extend my congratulations to the Mayfield and Graves County Class of 2026. Whether your next chapter includes college, the workforce, military service, or entrepreneurship, I wish you great success. Continue to pursue your goals, serve your community, and make a difference.
Go be great!
Let’s move Mayfield forward—together.
With gratitude,
Derrick Parrott
