Apr 03, 2026Building a Stronger Mayfield Together
Family, friends, and neighbors,
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. This campaign is about all of us. It’s about the future of Mayfield and the kind of community we want to build together. I’m running for mayor because I believe in Mayfield. I believe in our people, our strength, and our potential. With the right focus and leadership, we can create real opportunity and real progress.
Growing up in Mayfield was something special. It wasn’t just a place, it was an experience that shaped who I am today. Some of my best memories were made at our local parks—Mayfield-Graves County Ballpark, Dunbar Park, Kiwanis Park, but most of all, Eddie Williams Park. That’s where I spent countless days and nights playing until the lights shut off. What made Mayfield different then and what still makes it special now is who we are as a people. We are a tight-knit community built on hospitality, unity, and connection. As I grew, sports became a major part of my life. Football and basketball shaped my discipline, my mindset, and my work ethic, and taught me the importance of teamwork. Through those experiences and the relationships I built with mentors and coaches, I realized I wanted to serve and give back to the same community that invested so much in me.
That passion led me to take action when I saw a need in our community. Eddie Williams Park, located in a marginalized area, lacked the resources and support needed to keep it safe and thriving. Eddie Williams was more than a name—he was a legend in our community, known for his integrity, leadership, and perseverance. To honor that legacy, we came together as a community to restore the park. Through partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community members, we improved safety, upgraded equipment, and reestablished it as a space for youth, families, and connection. Parks like Eddie Williams Park are more than recreation spaces. They are foundations for opportunity. Since 2023, the Eddie Williams Committee has also provided scholarships to students who exemplify his character. If we want to attract businesses and industry to Mayfield, it starts with us—taking pride in our community, investing in our public spaces, strengthening our schools, and building a motivated workforce. Our future depends on all of us working together to create opportunities, support local businesses, and build a stronger, more connected community.
Community Updates & Conversations
Legislative Session Engagement
City and county officials, along with community leaders, had the opportunity to connect with state legislators during the legislative session. Building these relationships is an important step in continuing to move Mayfield forward.
NAACP Candidate Forum
Derrick participated in the NAACP forum, where candidates shared their platforms and engaged in meaningful dialogue with the community. Thank you to the NAACP for creating space for these important conversations. See More Here
B-3 Zoning & Business Development Discussions
Upcoming conversations at City Hall will focus on the use of video boards within the B-3 (highway commercial zone). The goal is to balance business visibility with community standards, safety, and aesthetics while supporting growth and development.
Incentive Committee Initiatives
The incentive committee will meet this month to continue discussions on strategic incentives aimed at attracting new businesses while supporting existing ones, helping create jobs and strengthen the local economy.
City Administrative Openings
The City of Mayfield currently has two administrative openings: a Public Safety Administrator working with the fire department and an Administrative Assistant supporting the mayor’s office.
City Services Update – Limb Pickup
Limb pickup began on the south side of the community and has now moved north. Residents are encouraged to place limbs by the roadside to ensure pickup.
Moving Forward Together
I’m committed to building a city where every child has opportunity, every neighborhood feels connected, and every family is proud to call Mayfield home. If you have questions, concerns, or ideas, I encourage you to reach out. I want to hear from you.
