Community. Progress. People.

September 2026 | Community Newsletter

LESS THAN 30 DAYS!

We are less than 30 days away from Election Day, and I want to take a moment to reflect on the work, relationships, and partnerships that continue to make Mayfield special.

Over the past month, I have had the opportunity to connect with community leaders, attend local events, support our youth, and work alongside organizations committed to strengthening the future of Mayfield and Graves County.

For me, leadership has never been about simply holding a position. It is about showing up, listening, building relationships, and working together to make a meaningful difference.

Here is a look at some of what has been happening throughout our community.

BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS & OPPORTUNITIES

Power in Partnership – Paducah Chamber | September 3

I enjoyed attending the Power in Partnership program, which featured a panel discussion highlighting the activity and opportunities surrounding the Paducah Department of Energy site. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with regional leaders and discuss the importance of collaboration, economic development, and creating opportunities that can benefit communities throughout our region.

CELEBRATING MAYFIELD

Hope Center Ribbon Cutting | September 9

I was glad to attend the ribbon cutting for the Hope Center at its new location. I am thankful for this organization and the important work it does to serve women, children, and families throughout our region. Congratulations to everyone involved in continuing this meaningful work in our community.

Battle of the Badges | September 12

It was great to attend the Battle of the Badges where our Mayfield fire and police department faced off Graves County’s sheriff and RCC department! Thank you to the Mayfield Lions Club for sponsoring this event, with proceeds benefiting Camp Rendezvous which is a local non-profit organization that supports our veterans. I also want to thank the men and women who serve and protect our community every day.

INVESTING IN OUR YOUTH & COMMUNITY

Mum Delivery | September 13

A special thank you to everyone who purchased mums and supported our middle school athletics program. Your support makes a difference for our student-athletes, with proceeds benefiting all sports programs at Mayfield Middle School.

Thank you as well to the coaches, volunteers, and everyone who helped coordinate and organize the fundraiser. It takes a team effort to make opportunities like this successful.

Scott Thompson Tennis Courts | September 14

I am proud to see our community come together to make the renovation of the Scott Thompson Tennis Courts possible. The recognition of these courts was also an opportunity to highlight the importance of recreation and quality facilities that serve our residents.

Thank you to everyone who played a role in making these improvements possible. WellCare Meeting | September 15

Over the past several months, I have joined representatives from WellCare, local worship organizations, the Mayfield and Graves County school districts, Mayfield Enrichment, and other community partners to discuss ways to provide breakfast and lunch for students during school breaks.

Every child deserves access to nutritious meals, even when school is not in session. Many families depend on our school districts and community organizations to help meet basic needs, and this effort is another example of what can happen when people come together with our students at the forefront.

Thanks to Mayfield Enrichment, our community partners, local leaders, donors, and volunteers, we were able to serve 166 students across the Mayfield and Graves County school districts.

Great things happen when a community works together for its young people.

Community Connect | September 17

It was a great day of learning with Community Connect as we kicked off our first field trip, giving students from Mayfield and Graves County an opportunity to learn more about business and marketing.

There is no substitute for giving students the chance to get out into the community, connect directly with businesses and industries, and learn about opportunities available right here in our town.

Murray State Football | September 19

It was a day of reflection and Racer pride as I traveled to Oklahoma State to help broadcast the Murray State football game.

It was a special opportunity to reconnect with former teammates, friends, and members of the Racer family. I enjoyed spending time with people I had not seen in a while and working alongside individuals who supported me during my time playing at Murray State.

Mayfield-Graves County Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner | September 22

I enjoyed attending the Mayfield-Graves County Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner. It was a great event at a beautiful venue and another reminder of the people and organizations working every day to strengthen our community.

Thank you to the Chamber, the planning committee, and the sponsors who made the evening possible. Congratulations to all of this year's award recipients.

It truly takes a village, with everyone working together, to keep our community moving forward.

Kentucky League of Cities Conference | September 23

The following day, I traveled to Covington, Kentucky, for the Kentucky League of Cities Conference. I enjoyed connecting with mayors and other local government representatives from across the state and attending sessions focused on economic development and issues impacting Kentucky communities.

Opportunities like these are important because we must continue to network, build relationships across the state, learn from other communities, and identify ideas and opportunities that can benefit Mayfield.

It was also a tremendous honor and a proud moment to see the City of Mayfield named KLC's 2026 City Government of the Year.

What an accomplishment for our city!

SkillRise 270 Radio Interview | September 25

Thank you to WYMC Radio for giving Nicole Kaletch and I the opportunity to talk about the SkillRise 270 community event.

SkillRise 270 represents an exciting opportunity for Mayfield and our entire region. It can serve as a tool for economic and workforce development by giving students, residents, and others throughout the region opportunities to connect with like-minded people and gain hands-on experience.

From metalworking and woodworking to embroidery and textiles, 3D printing, computers and electronics, SkillRise 270 creates opportunities for people to explore new skills, discover interests, and connect those skills to future possibilities.

On September 26th, It was exciting to see the community learn more about SkillRise 270 and participate in their community event hosted at the local Farmers Market and Harmon Park.

Dunbar Park & Leadership Students | September 25

I had the opportunity to speak with leadership students about the rebuilding of Dunbar Park and why investing in spaces for our youth and families matters.Thank you to Goldie Taylor for joining me to speak with the Mayfield and Graves County Leadership group to share your experience and history of Dunbar school and its impact on the community. Thank you to Jennifer Walker for inviting us to speak.

Community spaces are about more than recreation. They provide places where people can gather, build relationships, stay active, and create memories. Investing in these spaces is an investment in the quality of life of our community.

Mayfield Enrichment Center Community Fish Fry | September 27

Thank you to Mayfield Enrichment Center for hosting the Community Fish Fry at Dunbar Park. This event provided an opportunity for the community to interact with individuals running for local office. We had great weather, great food, games, conversations, and plenty of opportunities to connect with one another.

It was a long and busy day, but it was also a lot of fun. Thank you to everyone who participated, coordinated, donated, served, cooked, and shared resources to make the event successful.

TVA & MEWS Check Presentation | September 28

I’m grateful to be part of the partnership and investment supporting the Mayfield Graves County Ballpark.

This support will help us continue making improvements to the ballpark for our players, families,

and the entire community. Quality recreational facilities are an important investment in our young people and contribute to the pride and quality of life of our community. Also, thank you to the sponsors of the scoreboards at the ballpark. The players, families, and everyone involved at the ballpark will greatly appreciate it.

MES 3rd grade class | September 30

Working in the school district gives me opportunities to interact with students, and I always enjoy talking with them about leadership, community involvement, and the importance of being engaged in the place we call home.

I had the opportunity to speak with Mrs. Croft's third-grade class about the importance of voting. We talked about how voting gives people a voice in decisions that affect their families, neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and communities.

Helping young people understand civic engagement early is an important part of preparing the next generation to become informed and involved members of their community.

LOOKING AHEAD: MAYFIELD'S FUTURE

Every conversation, meeting, partnership, and community event reinforces something I believe deeply: Mayfield's future depends on all of us.

As we look ahead, my focus continues to be:

Economic Development — Creating opportunities for good-paying jobs, supporting local businesses, attracting investment, and encouraging responsible growth.

Youth Development — Expanding opportunities for our young people through recreation, education, workforce exposure, mentorship, and community involvement.

Community Building — Investing in our neighborhoods, parks, infrastructure, and the spaces that bring people together and strengthen our quality of life.

Transparent Leadership & Fiscal Responsibility — Making informed decisions, respecting taxpayer dollars, communicating openly, and ensuring residents have a voice in the direction of their city.

These are more than campaign talking points. They represent the work required to move Mayfield forward. Work that takes relationships, planning, collaboration, accountability, and follow-through.

As we enter the final weeks before Election Day, I remain committed to listening, learning,

showing up, and doing the work.

There is a lot to be proud of in Mayfield, and there is even more opportunity ahead. Let's keep moving Mayfield forward — together.
